- Fill out the necessary data.
- Pay the visa fee by credit card online.
- Submit the online application. The data will be transferred to the Embassy.
- Print the cover letter from the website and sign it. Application is not possible without the printed and signed cover letter.
- The signed cover letter must be submitted to the Embassy along with the necessary documentation listed in the “Schengen Visa Documentation Checklist”.
Visa fee: When you apply online on the VSS website, you should pay the fee by credit card.
Adults and children 12 years of age and above: 60 Euro.
Children aged 6-11: 35 Euro.
Children under 6 years of age: Free of charge.
Special categories of applicants free of charge: A few special categories of applicants are free of charge. Details about these and other rules can be found in the Visa Code Handbook, which contains the common visa guidelines for all Schengen countries. Please consult article 4.4.2 of the Visa Code Handbook to see if you belong to a fee exempt category. Applicants who are family members of EU citizens, who are exercising their rights to free movement within the EU under Directive 2004/38/EC, are also fee exempt. For details please consult the Visa Code Handbook part III. Please be aware that in order to be fee exempt, it is not sufficient to be a family member of an EU citizen. The EU citizen must be exercising their right to free movement under Directive 2004/38/EC. This, in principle, means that the EU citizen must have moved to another Schengen country in order to work. Please consult the Visa Code Handbook for details. Applicants who have checked and verified that they are free of charge, should choose zero as their payment option in the VSS website. Be aware that if it is later discovered that the applicant is in fact not fee exempt, the payment must be made in cash to the Embassy.
Applicants who do not own a credit card: Applicants who do not have credit card can pay cash at the Embassy. Payment in cash is made in yen. The calculation is based on the fee in Euro. The visa fee in yen may be changed without prior notice, due to changing exchange rates.
