Public viewing of the Tour de France Grand Départ Copenhagen at the Danish Embassy!
The Danish Embassy in Tokyo celebrated the Grand Départ in Denmark by hosting an event last weekend with a public viewing-event in the courtyard.
Tour de France is underway!
Friday started off with a BBQ for the Danish Chamber of Commerce in Japan DCCJ, where Ambassador Peter Taksoe-Jensen gave an introduction speech alongside the DCCJ chairman Peter Roland. The doors then opened to the public at 21:00, to allow everyone to enjoy the Danish hotdogs provided by Danish Crown and be served beer by the amazing Mikkeller booth.
The Grand Départ on Friday and the second stage on Saturday was broadcast live on a big screen in the courtyard.
The time difference made the live viewings late, but there was plenty to keep the visitors interested both day and night. We were a bit loud and we hope for the forgiveness from our neighbours.
The courtyard was open and outfitted with several booths for the bicycle enthusiasts to look at during the very warm weekend.
Novo Nordisk had two stationary bikes set up in front of screens for visitors to try. Novo actually supports a professional biketeam consisting of riders with diabetes.
MATE.BIKE International brought six electric bikes for visitors to try around Daikanyama. Two vintage Pedersen bikes were displayed. Eurobike participated with multiple bicycles from different Danish companies, a Christiania bike as well as a BULLITT bike by Larry vs Harry. Søgreni displayed their timeless bicycle bells as well as beautiful handcrafted bike pedals. Hermansen Copenhagen ApS displayed a beautiful Danish bicycle as well. Newton-Rider displayed their new helmets combining style and utility. Jabra participated with a banner, showing their support to the event as well as highlighting their earbuds being perfect for sport. Feel Good Company ApS provided the tired people with Energy bars of many different tastes, such as mango, cinnamon, and rhubarb.
Saturday, bicycling enthusiasts could join a celebratory bike ride to the French embassy. Here they were greeted by the French representatives and saw a greetings video from the Danish Ambassador to France. Sunday, Danish cycling games for kids by Baba Makoto taught children from the ages of 2-6 the fun and rules of bicycling.
Great thanks from the embassy to all the Danish companies that joined the event, to the visitors who took their time to visit and to Japan Vintage Ride (JVR) who through their presence provided colour, atmosphere, a message from Copenhagen from French sports commentator Florent Dabadie including a great quiz.
